JuiceSSH can no longer be installed from Google Play, and its last release—version 3.2.2—dates back to February 2021. If you relied on it as your Android SSH client, it is time to migrate to an alternative and rotate your keys. Here are three free alternatives along with the steps to make the switch.

How to migrate your keys (and why you should rotate them)

  1. Generate a new key pair inside your new app, or on your computer using ssh-keygen -t ed25519.
  2. Add it to your server with ssh-copy-id user@server, or by pasting the public key into ~/.ssh/authorized_keys.
  3. Verify that you can log in using the new key.
  4. Remove the old key from authorized_keys. JuiceSSH has gone years without security patches.

If you prefer to keep your existing key, you can export it from JuiceSSH (if the app still opens) and import it into your new client. Still, generating a fresh key pair is the safest approach.

Frequently asked questions

Does JuiceSSH still work?

If you already have it installed, it may still launch, but you cannot install it from Google Play and it has received no updates since February 2021. For connecting to production servers, switching to an actively maintained client is strongly recommended.

What is the best free SSH client like JuiceSSH?

ConnectBot or termi1 are ideal choices if you want a dedicated SSH client with a saved connections manager. Termux is a great fit if you prefer a complete Linux shell environment on your phone where you can run ssh directly.

Do I need to replace my SSH keys?

It is best practice to do so. Generate a new ed25519 key, copy it to your server, confirm your access works, and remove the old key from ~/.ssh/authorized_keys. That way, your access won't depend on an app unpatched for years.
